چکیده

IN a previous communication [Martland and Robison, 1924] it was shown that after blood has been laked with distilled water a rapid increase in the amount of inorganic phosphate occurs even at room temperature. The change is still more rapid at 370 but is entirely inhibited when the blood is laked with 1 00 trichloroacetic acid, which indicates that it is due to the enzymic hydrolysis of phosphoric esters in the blood. The possibility that in these esters the phosphoric acid is combined with sugar or a sugar derivative suggested that this enzyme (both in its hydrolytic and synthetic function) might play a part in carbohydrate metabolism. We have therefore continued the investigation of its properties and have also sought for any changes in the blood sugar which might be correlated with the action of this enzyme on the organic phosphates. In the first place our plan was to find the optimum conditions for the hydrolysis and if possible also for synthesis of the blood phosphoric esters by the enzyme, the location of the enzyme (whether in plasma or corpuscles) and the type of phosphoric ester which it can hydrolyse. It was also of interest to find whether the organic phosphate of blood, which is hydrolysed by this enzyme, is the same as that which is acted on by bone and whether any increase occurs in the reducing sugar of the blood as the result of the hydrolysis. The presence of this phosphoric esterase in blood has been also noticed by Lawaczeck [1924] whose paper did not come to our notice until most of our experiments were completed. With regard to certain of the conditions affecting these enzymic reactions his results are similar to those which we have obtained using different methods. He also gives interesting data with regard to the influence of different ions and of CO2 on the action of the enzyme. Some of these experiments we have repeated and confirmed. His paper does not deal with the question of glycolysis.

Epidemiology of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis and It’s Relationship With Blood Groups in Bam, 2007

Background & Aims: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a health problem, especially in tropical and subtropical countries. In spite of new scientific developments in recent years, several questions related to this disease have been raised that have still no answer. The objective of this research was to study the epidemiology of CL and its relationship with blood groups in the city of Bam in 2007...

Organophosphates and monocyte esterase deficiency.

AIMS To examine the possibility that monocyte esterase deficiency (MED) could be caused by exposure to organophosphates. METHODS Pseudocholinesterase, paraoxonase and arylesterase activities were measured in the serum and acetylcholinesterase activity was measured in the red cells of a group of monocyte esterase deficient subjects and compared with the enzyme activities of a control group of ...

insecticide-resistant mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus

Resistance to organophosphates in Culex mosquitoes is typically associated with increased activity of non-specific esterases. The commonest phenotype involves two elevated esterases, A2 and B2, while some strains have elevation of esterase B1 alone. Overexpression of the two B esterase electromorphs is due to gene amplification. Full-length cDNAs coding for amplified esterase B genes from a res...

Biochemical Characterization of A Novel Thermophilic Esterase Isolated from Shewanella sp F88

The main objective of this study was to purify and characterize an esterase from Shewanella sp F88. The enzyme was purified 41-fold and an overall yield of 21 %, using a two-step procedure, including ammonium sulfate precipitation and Q-sepharore chromatography. Molecular weight of the enzyme was 62.3 kDa according to SDS-PAGE data. The enzyme showed an optimum activity at pH 6.5 and 58 ˚C. Evo...

Evaluation of esterase and hemolysin activities of different Candida species isolated from vulvovaginitis cases in Lorestan Province, Iran

Background and Purpose: Annually affecting millions of women, vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is commonly described by signs and symptoms of vulvovaginal inflammation in the presence of Candida species. Today, the detection of the virulence factors plays a major role in the understanding of pathogenesis of candidiasis and helps produce new anticandidial drugs to improve its treatment efficiency....
